She took a sip of her drink – ah, Lucy had remembered she liked hot tea and she took a larger drink. She realized she was thirsty. She looked at the wraps on the table – hummm , earth realm food. She checked, found a veggie wrap and carefully removed the inside from the wrap which she pushed to the side. She picked up a fork and tried the veggies. They were good, so as she took a few bites, she thought, where do I begin to ask.
She said to Derrick. “Yes, it really is hard to judge a person’s age these days. Most people do not think I am my own current age. And because they are not able to judge age correctly they often misjudge other factors about people. Had that happen a lot, too.” “And as a result, it has put me in some tough situations over my few years.” She said with a chuckle, looking at Derrick.
“So you have been involved in this for forty years. So just what is this all about anyway?” “What is the basis of your abilities? Were you born with them or developed them somehow?” “and it seemed you thought you saw something in me back at the park? What was the basis of that thinking?’ Maybe that is a place to start so I can see if I see any connection as to why I have been drawn into this.” Is that enough questions to begin?”
With that she finished the veggies and pulled another off the place and followed the same pattern. Emptied the wrapper and began to eat the filling, sipping her tea from time to time between bites as she looked at him.

Derreck thoughts about her questions like an old man thinking about a puzzle. He thought back to when Simon helped him into the Wardens and showed him a few things.
"I have not been in all of this for the last 40 years. I have been in it for about 15 years. Back then it was about keeping a balance between the ethereal world and the corporeal world. As you know, when someone dies, their spirit is freed from the body and moves onto some other plane of existence. The Wardens were divided into two sects, the Collectors and the Reapers. Each had their ways of dealing the ghosts, spirits or specters. The Collectors would take the spirits and store them, then move them to the next realm, receiving a bit of the power in retrun. Reapers would absorb the souls and TAKE what power they wanted and give whatever was left to the higher powers. The leaders of the two sides came to an accord to keep the balance, but somewhere along the way a rogue Reaper decided to just keep all the power."
He took a drink and looked around for a moment nonchalantly, "I am a Sensory type Warden. I was drawn in about 20 years ago, but didn't take a side for another fears. My senses are heightened to a much higher degree then most. I was born with greater hearing, but developed my other senses after joining the Wardens. After my training, I learned I had other senses that were just greater extensions of my own. Feeling is the most interesting though, as long as I am focusing I can feel anything within about 20-ish feet. It's handy for trying to evade or just know where things are. The downside is that while that sense is active, pain is intensified, even paper cuts become sword slash feelings."
Thinking for a moment about her last question, he seemed to be pondering how to explain what he saw in her before. So if the explanation was complicated, he went with the usual blunt answer. "Being trained in the ways of Whispering, I felt the extra source of energy that spoke to you, even though I could not hear them. You are not the first one I have guided down a path between worlds. Everyone has some type of Warden ability but not all those who have these abilities are meant to be in all of this. The mind can only handle so much information and so comes in another one of my abilities, Instinct and intuition. You have a strong mind and a powerful spirit, I figured you would be able to handle this world and it seems I was correct. Even though you kind of fell into the deep end of the pool so to speak."
Finishing his drink, he grabbed a meat wrap and awaited for her next round of questions. "Does that cover the basics of your first volley of questions? Let's keep going, I have all day. Another thing Wardens don't need is sleep. But none of the effects of the Wardens kicks in until you sign the Scroll of Conscription. So whenever you feel your getting tired, let me know, Lucy has a couple of snacks that can extend your endurance."

Lin listened thoughtfully as he spoke, noting his answers and trying to adsorb and process the information as it came, mentally making notes of questions that came up. She thought, this is not the first time I have ‘fallen into the deep end of the pool, and I can’t even swim!’ But be that as it may, it was now time to learn to ‘swim’ in this pool for she suspected that once the event initiated, she would not be able to return – that was what the prophecy said. For some reason, she had been led into this by a greater One than herself. This was not unusual for most of her guidance came in process, not revealed prior. And once again, she was glad she had an Unseen guide leading her. At such times prior, she would often see beyond her current ability and develop new skills. And there was always a benefit for her, a growth period and a purpose for where she was and what she would develop. She had to trust that this was still the case. She knew that while her earth realm body seemed to age, that her spirit continued to grow, become stronger and she learned new ways to function, new paths to follow. She also knew that there was a portal she would have to enter at some point and wondered if this might be the precursor for that time.
So she began to frame her next set of questions for him. She began by asking Lucy for another round of tea and some room temperature water. Ice tended to cause her body temperature to drop, and make her feel cold as well as affecting her movements. She said to Derrick, “Yes, I do have a powerful spirit – I have been told that more than once. It can be spotted by friend or foe. I had someone tell me once, you have the strongest spirit in this place, and everyone can feel it when you walk in. That took me by surprise because I was sitting in a room full of ‘strong spirits’ and this guy was a total stranger, one that made me uneasy. And sure enough I did come into conflict with him.”
“And as far as the mind, I was brought to the place many years ago where I knew I needed to develop my mind in ways most do not even know about or consider. It has to do with being open, and unafraid to confront things that are different from what you have previously learned or experienced.”
“This is the key for working among people of different ethnic groups for you must learn the meanings, culture of their realm if you are to understand how to communicate and understand them. The higher thinkers call them paradigm shifts. I had a language learner teacher say once, learn a new language and get a new heart. You do not lose the one you have, you simply expand it to add another dimension.”
“So for me this means I need to learn to function here, and I should find how to learn, and learn quickly.” With a smile, she said, “Especially since I seem to already have opposition, as you said, guilty by association.” “Ok, so, – questions – here is the next round:”
Remind me again who the SEAPA guys are, and give more insight on who is who and what is the foundation of this “war?”
“I am afraid I do not know much about spells or magic fields so what is a Class X – that seems to be important. And you seem to operate in some of this as well. Maybe that was part of what you were doing before?”
“How does Lucy fit into all this?” “I have seen the other realms we traveled in but what about others? Are they more and what is the layout of the ethereal realm? Portals, etc. We went in one way but were going to need to go out another through what seemed to be a different realm??
“Tell me more about the Rogue warden – I have already encountered one of those and that is a tough one.” “And just out of curiosity, who were you before all this started in your life? What was your earth realm life like?”
“Oh, and by the way – you used the phrase, "Vrisk da ren shi go, mi itsu gee, de." It sounds Asian, but I do not recognize it. Some of the sounds are the same as Chinese but others are not. What language is it? Many of those languages are very similar, often written with the same characters but not always the same sound or meaning.”
Lucy arrived with her tea and water and she gratefully began to down those as she waited for his answers.

"SEAPA is an organization that tries to maintain the balance of spiritual energy between the ethereal plain and the corporeal plain by disposing or transporting those who pass. In shorter words, their the Grim Reapers of lore. As for the who of the who's I am not relly able to answer that. I have been trying to stay out of it. And the foundation of the war has been skewed but it would seem that neither side is doing what they were intending to do in the first place. In the beginning, both sides were are war for the power of the spiritual energy. But it would seem that SEAPA is trying to eliminate all those who might be a problem in the future, it's an 'if your not with us...' type of thing.", Derrick's words were hollow and seemed to be more or less rehearsed. He had probably been asked these questions before by those who had come in the past. He seemed a bit distanced from the story.
"Like the military, the higher the Class the more powerful the effects are having in the real world. Class X power fields are unknown in strength but do seem to have a tendency to create ridiculously things and can effect the Corporeal Realm indefinitely. the problem with Class X power fields is that they are not always some uber powerful force. Sometimes they don't do anything, but because of their chaotic state, SEAPA responds in full force regardless of the outcome.", taking a drink of his drink, he seemed to be touching more to reality with this segment of the conversation, there was just something about how he was speaking that him seem much more alive.
"I was a banker in my previous life. Granted back then it was more of a security risk and technology was mythological. I became drawn into this when I walked into a bar several years back. The owner was a kind hearted man looking for someone to keep monetary records for him, he wanted me to be an accountant. He paid well and I was down on my luck then, so I took the job. After about a year of noticing strange things happeneing inside the bar, I asked about it. He was blunt and honest and didn't hold back the truth. But after the conversation, I joined their ranks because I wanted to help. Now I just stay in the grey area and help by helping newbies to their choice of sides. Nothing more."
Derrick chuckled and looked at Lucy, "She has always been an outsider looking in. She has no actual abilities that I can tell but She has always followed me into the frey. She is actually my grand daughter, to some great-grand degree. I cannot tell her, but I did introduce myself as a long lost brother when she was of age. She is always full of life and energy and is always willing to help out. She loves a good adventure."
“I have seen the other realms we traveled in but what about others? Are they more and what is the layout of the ethereal realm? Portals, etc. We went in one way but were going to need to go out another through what seemed to be a different realm??
Derrick thought about her realms question and was silent for a moment before grabbing a napkin and pulling out a pen, "There are an unknown number of realms in existence. The Corporeal Realm, The Ethereal Realm, the Shadow Realm and the Void.", he drew a center line then a line spaced out about an inch, writing Corp, and Ether above them. "These are the two realms that most of us travel through and that spirits seem to be connected to.", drawing a line across the two previous lines he wrote 'shadow' next to it. "This is the Shadow Realm, it intersects the Corporeal and Ether Realms in parallel. Any change made to the Ether or Corporeal is also made in the Shadow Realm. When a new life comes into existence, the Shadow Realm has a Shadow form of it. The Shadow Realm has a population that is so much greater than our own due to the fact that they have a three realm draw in. But there is only one city that any have been able to find. Shaude Ciates, hidden somewhere in a realm of nearly infinite distance and no time." Drawing a circle about the "H" like shape, he wrote Void and slashed diagonally across. "The Void is the realm between realms. Getting there is something only the most powerful of the Void walkers and Wardens can do, but no description can be given except, all those who go there are eventually killed by its natural ability to degrade energy."
“Couldn't really tell you about the Rogue Wardens, they are powerful and against both sides. That about all I know. I do know they use the powers they are given to their fullest and sometimes most destructive means. Reapers and Collectors are essentially the same. Reapers take the spiritual energy into their body and move it forcefully to the next place, whereas Collectors create contracts that place the souls in a safe location while being transported. If a Reaper were to keep all the spiritual energy they found, they could become more powerful in a short amount of time. But power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The spiritual energy is aligned to either light or dark sides, very rarely is it both. If a Reaper were to take in all the dark spiritual energy, let's say from forced souls, it will corrupt them deeply. And if a Collector were to keep the souls in their contracts and use them to gather an army, then they to would become something of a feared force. When Reapers and Collectors go rogue, everyone needs to worry."
Derrick smiled and looked at the door, then back to Lin. “Let us continue. Before all of this started, I was a banker in Tombstone for my first 40 years. I loved riding the range and spending time with my family like everyone else. I was killed in 1901 by a couple of bandits looking to score a big cash out, but instead found themselves six feet deep by the Rangers and Marshall's. That’s how I became a Warden. Sometimes, the spirit just won’t die, and we come back as something else.” Derrick smiled and thought once more about his past, “Vrisk da ren shi go, mi itsu gee, de is a language that is comprised of many earth languages do to it’s nature. It means, Bring me strength and endurance, I will return it properly, thank you. It’s Shadowgen, the language of the shadow realm. Being a Whisperer, I have learned to find the tones and sounds and patterns to speak, listen to and hear any language nearly, except that tongue clicking language, that’s a stumper.”
Derrick laughed and looked at his watch, seeing 9pm according to the hands. “The amount of knowledge I can grant you is immense, I am a fan of speaking to others especially since I don’t do it very often. The world is full of wondrous and dangerous things, and with the ability to live for a very long time, I have learned to just learn as much as I can before I meet my end. What about you? How did you come to follow the Voice? Have you ever thought about doing your own thing?”
