Lin again began to recall her encounters over the years. She had never gone looking specifically for one, and more often than not, she had sought to avoid them. But something about her seemed to trigger issues, especially with men in some kind of leadership position. Often it started with someone seeing a capability she had, a position she was given or a past accomplishment or her education and asking her to participate in helping with a project or task. Sometimes it began simply by her following an interest. Her upbringing and gifting made her able to see needs, even within herself and know how to address a solution. And as often as not, she was not aware of the potentials for a clash or negative encounters. It was simply her gifting. And just as often the situation did lead to a clash of some sort. At that point she had to diligently seek counsel from The Voice to proceed or the result would not be good.
She by nature did not choose the warrior role, but when she had to step into it, it was always backed by a power beyond herself. She had come to the understanding of her position as female in form, and she preferred to function in the support role as designed rather than lead. She thought of her partner, her husband and the father of her children. They functioned well as a team. Although they had many differences, she knew he would lay down his life for her, and exhibited that in their relationship. She had seen him give up his dreams to care for her and the children. That was one of the things that made her feel so safe with him. She felt loved and protected. Yet she knew her responsibilities and he expected them of her as well.
Lin knew she had a tenacity that was not visible with her physical form. She had seen that part of herself kick in more strongly when her soul mate died. She had operated in it from that time with a new strength that had been provided by the Voice. In fact her physical form was often deceiving in such cases and used against her. Yet her underlying nature made her want to avoid conflict.
And now that awareness was beginning to arise in her. Suddenly she felt alone. She had seen or sensed a shift in Derrick back at the park, and she wondered why she had agreed to come with him to this place. She felt a sense of uneasiness or caution flow through her and began to diligently seek direction.
She remembered then the words that had come: Allow no fear or terror here or you lose your authority. Put on your helmet and take the reins. Prepare to speak with your ruby jaw. Reins – so the first place to take up position is in the mind. Aahh yes – always it begins in the unseen realm of the mind. With that, once again she felt the rod of steel drop. She looks at Derrick with the long steady steel gaze of the eyes and waits for his answers to what she had asked.
As she waits, she hears The Voice in her spirit:
You go out to battle in spirit, that’s true, But sometimes there’s a flesh component, too. The key is to go in Spirit and Truth. Only then will your way be smooth.
For if you use one without the other The ground that we lose we may never recover For Truth cuts asunder the spirit and soul And Spirit heals up the wounds to make us whole.
Rest in the battle – in Me you must trust For only then will it bring results that are just. Battles do destroy but not as the world sees. It does not take prisoners but sets people free.
Those that are bound have their chains cut loose. No longer deceived, they now walk in truth. Suddenly My light will shine bright on their way And darkness will flee in the light of My Day.
I am strong and prepare you to fight And overcome evil with that which is right. The weapons I give you are the finest made For all situations, they will give you aide.
Know this is no insignificant fight For dark evil forces do have much might. Now get prepared and don’t go alone. It’s a fight to the finish, evil to dethrone.
Take up the armor and the weapons I provide. If you will overcome, don’t go in untried. For these are more than just wordy ideals For each has power that lies there concealed.
Truth is a utility belt buckled at the waist, Acting within law puts breastplate in its place. Put on boots to walk in good news and peace, And doing what’s right causes confidence to increase.
Knowledge I rescue you is a helmet for the head, And the sword of My words puts the enemy in dread. Be watchful and listening as you go forth to speak Makes outcomes and winning each battle unique.
Knowing what to say and at the right time Is to tell My mysteries, the victory to find. Keep your eyes open, let none fall behind, And the battle for this all, is inside the mind.
So take the armor and go to war in peace. Carry on and occupy until all time does cease. Take the position I’ve given and occupy until I come For I’ve given you victory and power to overcome.
With that she steps through the door with Derrick.

He stepped through the door and waves to Lucy. Lucy in return smiled, waved and fired off a "Be careful" before the door closed and the runes on the frame faded along with the door.

Lin quickly sensed this was another dimension. It was not hard to figure, unseen doors that suddenly appear in a wall were the first give away. She also sensed this was a hostile environment, and scenes from her childhood dreams reappeared from her memories. The voice said, no fear or terror allowed here, so she whispered under her breath, I think would like some help here, please. She saw a flash of light reflect close by and knew she wasn't alone now. But since this is an area that Derreck apparently knew since he knew how to enter she knew she must wait for his leading. Sensorem, hummm. Where too, sir? she asks, thinking, yep it definitely is the rabbit hole with shades of the matrix.

Derreck closed the door behind him and looked at the waters that surrounded them. They were on a small island in the middle of a lake that seemed to stretch from horizon to horizon. The greenery around here was like nothing ever seen. With plants that looked like Weeping willows but instead of having thin leaves, they were coated in shape coral like spines. The sands were white in color and the sky was dark as though it were about to come a downpour.
"Well, here we stay until dawn. Then we move to Flamewaker's Sector due north."
Derreck walked to a small rock and lifted it to reveal a small button in the sand. "This is where we will be sleeping, it;s relatively safe and hidden out of sight." He pressed the button and a small quake began to move through the small island they stood on. The sands shifted and began to fall into the ground as a slate of metal moved. When it quit, Derreck walked to the edge and began to descend into a staircase that spiraled deep enough that it should be flooded with water, but all was dry.
Descending about 10 feet, the lights began to dim. Grabbing a bag from a space in the wall, he cracked a couple of glow lights and began to make his way down the stairs which seemed to go on forever. At the bottom of the stairs, a corridor opened up, wide and tall. Runic insignia were etched into the walls from top to bottom. Throwing two new glow sticks down the corridor, the place began to glow, the runes on the walls lit up the same color as the glow sticks, making the room a light blue.
He walked for about 100 yards, and came to a door which opened as he approached. Inside the room was a massive open space that was lit up by unusual glowing things on the walls and ceiling. As he entered, the room lit up some more and revealed that this place was underwater. Monsters of the deep rested next to walls that were super thick and clear as day. Small fish swam around the dome like structure, feeding on whatever they did, and some were being fed on.
In the center of the dome was a tent, campfire and some brush. The floor was covered in the sands of the waters, but instead of white, these sands were various colors and the rocks inside the dome were coral rocks and magma spires made of jet black glass.
"Welcome to hideaway. My home away from home. Make yourself at home and you may now begin to ask your questions."
Turning towards a small sandbox of plants he began to inspect the plants and pulling various rocks from the bed. After a few minutes, he would move to another and as he moved, a pattern emerged. After finishing a bed, another would appear, and eventually it would become evident that this place was an underwater greenhouse with dozens of 5 by 3 foot beds placed about 2 feet apart.

Look, Lin said, I just went to the park to do some thinking, sat on a bench and was minding my own business when you show up. On a whim, I went with you to get a drink at a coffee café. I could tell immediately this was not a usual place. Before I could get my bearings, barely get a sip of my tea, which I was looking forward to and suddenly I am disappearing through an invisible door, into yet another dimension, to avoid some sort of danger which seems to be connected to you. WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL ME WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT I HAVE GOTTEN MYSELF INTO? I have come simply by following the guidance I get internally and it seems my life may be on the line, so it might help to have a few facts here, PLEASE? And do you have any hot tea here, by chance? Food wouldn't be refused either. I should have taken one of those sandwiches you offered back in the park. And I have been asking questions but so far have not gotten much in the way of answers. We did not get to finish our conversation there so do you think you might could fill me in at this point? By the way, would you add this to the list - are we going to suddenly need to disappear from here also? she said with a little laugh.
Lin was thankful her two companions were still around. She remembered how she was introduced to them some years ago. She knew she could depend on them and that she was not alone. With that she waited for some response from Derrick.

He thought for a moment about the last two hours and realized that she was right. He was so worried about getting away from SEAPA that he hadn't truly answered any questions.
Walking into the tent, he went missing for a minute before walking out carrying a percolator and some bag of what looked to be tea.
"I apologize for everything. The SEAPA is something more of us try to avoid on a daily basis.", he said building a small fire that burned without smoke. It lit up a small radius with a purple hue and generated a lot more heat than the usual red stuff.
"My name is Derreck, I am a 'Whisperer'. The world you live in is just an outer shell of what the true world looks like and is.", Derreck stoked the fire and smiled, walking back into the tent, returning with two cups and a few grocery supplies.
Placing some bread, patties of meat and wooden plates on a rock, he walked back into the tent and came out with a frying pan. "This place...", he said looking around, "Is one of many safe havens placed throughout the different sections of the Ether Side of the City. Those who do not wish to get caught or wish to stay off the grid, come to these places."
"There is a war going on between the SEAPA and some other force. Anyone with special abilities, is a target for conscription or destruction, exclusively.", he said throwing two patties on the pan, then placing the pan on the fire.
"I thought I heard voices when I was younger. Always hearing things that were no where, always thinking I was seeing things that were not there. It started when I was I think 6. Seeing ghosts, hearing the words of the Ether and the elements."

Yes, I do remember you told me your name was Derreck, and the young lady at the café – Lucy? She called you Derreck, too but you said you were called Sensorem. Would that be your special abilities? My guess from the sound of it has something to do with the sensory perceptions.
And the SEAPA – who are they and do you know who they are fighting, do you know? Sounds like you may have something they want, since you are trying to avoid them Are they the good guys or the bad guys? She asked again nervously laughing.
Quickly, she said, I am not making jokes, just a little nervous, especially since we are obviously hiding from someone. And what is a Whisperer? Oh, that smells good, and I really am hungry.
So your awareness started at 6. Mine was 5, only mine were really bad and very frightening dreams. I can tell when we change realms. There are many, you know. This is a new area to me, and I am a little concerned. You said we will stay here for the night, but where will we need to go in the morning? I left my car at the café, too. Will that cause problems? And part of my concern is why am I here? I knew a change was coming, and that is why I was seeking direction. I am not sure if this is it. Tell me more, please.

Derreck flipped the patties and watched them and listened to her. She had the right to be truly confused to all of this new world information. When he was introduced with the Paranormal, he was sent to a psychiatric ward because he tried to convince people that they were real, but with no evidence, the words he spoke fell on deaf ear.
Derreck: "Yes, my name is Derreck, that is my Corporeal or Birth name. The Wardens and the words on the 'wanted' signs is Sensorem. Meaning Senses in Latin. Most people have 5 senses and in rare cases 6. But instead I have like 8. The usual, sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste, and then the extras. I can also listen to the elements, which is an extension on hearing. Listening to the elements is like learning a new language, just with different sounds. I can hear divinity and spectralai, both being Ethereal languages derived from Ghosts and beings of a celestial type. I can feel vibrations in the earth and air and water, like a seismographs, which allows me to know when to run. I don't have telepathy or telekinesis like some of the combat oriented Wardens, but I am pretty good in a fist fight."
Pulling the fillets off the pan, he slid them onto bread and passed one to her. "Kalimou Fish. High in protein, helps with regenerative processes and endurance maintenance. I don't have condiments. Sorry." Pulling the purcolator from the fire, he poured the liquid from it into a stone made cup and handed it to her. "This is the equivilent to Orange Peko, but I call it -Litva Crea-. Both the fish and the tea come from this sanctuary."
After the meal, he cleaned up and sat next to the fire, listening to her story and thinking of the answers that were to come.
"A Whisperer is a type of Warden or person that can speak to Elements, Spirits, Divines or ones who can translate the words spoken by those things. I am a Whisperer."
He shifted on the ground and leaned his back against a rock like a chair. "SEAPA, they are a special operations unit, kinda like the FBI or CIA, except they are more organized, have more toys and WAY more firepower. They are fighting something but I am not sure who. There is talk in the underground that the Void Walkers have reappeared so, probably them. They find, capture or kill anything that is not mundane in nature and either conscript them into the Wardens or place them into a cell where they cannot do any harm to the humans. Years ago, they would have been called good guys. They defended everyone and everything that ever needed help, mundane or not. But as of the last ten years, they have been on a mission like no other, aggressively trying to find and destroy anything that might do any harm their cause. So far they have been very successful. The 'Irregulars' like you and me, are down to a record low."
The lights in the dome began to brighten as blue speckles began to engulf the top of the dome, concentrating over the two of them like a sun beam. "Those are Black Wurms. They are extremely dangerous when you are just in the water without protection, because they emit an extremely corrosive acid that glows blue. They like the dome surface, and move around like stars. Sometimes gathering up when they feel threatened."
Listening to her story he nodded, knowing what she was talking about. "Nightmares. That's a bad way to grow up. When in here you don't need to be concerned, it's perfectly safe. The Titano-Shark and the local fishery life will not bother us in here."
Thinking about her car, he thought about how long they had actually been running. "Nah, the car is fine. Lucy will take care of it. That is my little sister, and another special type like us known as a "Moon Tracer", someone who can track anything and is a genius when it comes to technology. She is a Techno-Magi and Moon Tracer. Scary powerful when she decides to fight.", he laughed thinking about their situation.
"We cannot stay here but for about 12 hours at a time at the most. The Water Elementals are gentle giants but very territorial to anything that is not made of water purely. They don't mind us sticking around for about 8 hours, but afterwards you move on or get ready for a tide of monstrous destruction. We will be heading to Flamewaker's Sector next, where we will exit this realm and go to the Corporeal. You say you are seeking direction? Maybe I am the fork in the road. Maybe I can help, but either way, once we exit the Ether, you will be free to follow whatever path you choose. SEAPA should leave you alone, because you are not making trouble. That's one path. The other path is to find the other side of the fight, the bad guys. Or you can join the Resistance Movement, Lucy is in that side of the fight, just trying to defend those who cannot defend themselves."
The light beam quickly scattered and the dome above began to look like the star sky of Earth. He smiled looking to the glowing wurms and nodded in thought at he planned the next days path.

Ahh, Lin thought as she listened. A new world view, a new realm and yet another unknown language. She had encountered many over the days of her earth journey. It was always a strange feeling with first exposures, yet often comes with a high level of energy necessary to process so much new at once. Languages or sounds are a challenge at first because you have to learn if it is simply another way of expressing something you are familiar with or something totally new to your experience.
But hearing, rather perceiving, was one of her gifts, often her lifeline as she entered new realms. She knew that the visible was often masking something at present unseen whatever realm, although she had nothing to confirm that. She thought about what he said – yes, she had encountered such situations many times over the years where you had to be wary in interaction, which is one of the reasons she is cautious around new people. She was fortunate to have Derreck as one to help her in this matter, although it was really too early to totally trust him. But she had no choice but to trust at this point. And often, a helpful companion soon appears in the current realm. It is like something beyond yourself draws them to you.
She thought about one of her first experiences when she walked into such a situation and had to trust The Voice for direction. In fact he looked a little like the man who had pretty much thrown her off a train so many years ago when she was missing her exit point. And the man who shouted at her from an upper floor when she was in a covert situation and had lost sight of her companions. In fact, he looks a lot like one of her companions, Ayrin, too. Interesting also was the way he walked into her life and made a point of introducing himself. She chuckled – just like Derrick!
How many times had she been in the “not so culturally correct” position? Is this another of those times? What exactly is the issue here? she thought.
But she said – ‘this tastes pretty good, Derrick. Thank you so much for feeding me. Tea is good too. I have always drawn strength from the things provided by the environment or habitat. You said there are other places like this one around the area? Guess I shall find out what the Flamewaker’s is about since we shall be going there. Looks like I am getting a grand tour here! Too bad I do not have time to get to see more of this one! I do have one more question does this place you call ether operate on a time frame as the one you call corporal?

Derreck pulled a pocket watch and showed her the time. The hands of the watch were moving pretty fast considering. "Time here in the Ether passes about one and a half times faster than the Corporeal Realm. BUT when you make the transition from the Ether to the Corporeal, the same amount of time has passed either way. So one hour there is about one and a half here."
Derreck began to look a bit down, pulling a small note pad out from a small pocket between rocks. "Yea, this place is pretty big. It's beautiful, especially during sunsets. The magic in this region creates Aurora Borealus effects ranging from flames in the skies to lightning crawling its way across the cloud. The wildlife is not always friendly, but if you keep your distance, you can see some truly wonderful things."
He noted a few things down on the notepad, and then looked to her as the conversation continued. "So, tell me about yourself. The elements say you are guided, but I would like to know more about you."
Derreck flipped another patty onto the fire and poured another glass of tea for her. "Oh I didn't warn you, but if for some reason you feel extremely energetic and rejuvenated, it the fish patties. They have extremely high amounts of long-term nutrients and energy boosters. Enough nutrients to sustain the warrior types for days. It also seems to regenerate the cells of the body, so it can make you younger, persay."

Lin chuckled at that. “Well” she said, “I could use some extra energy these days and as for the getting younger, we will just have to see. Maybe I could have some of that to take home with me, if I ever get home again, that is. I could market it and make some money? she said jokingly. “I could use some extra income.” But I really do not know about this speeding time up thingy. It goes fast enough as it is! So let me get this right – one hour where we came from is one and a half here? Is that good or bad in the overall situation?”
She continues, pensively, “Interesting, too, that the elements speak to you. A well-known prophet said that there would people from the next generations who have that gift – feeling the vibrations of the unseen from the earth. I also draw strength and guidance from the earth. I also have what we call intuition, and somehow seem to know things before they happen, although I don’t always know that I know or understand it until it happens.”
“Right now I am sensing serious times ahead, hard and violent, – that is why I came to the park. I have known for a long time this was coming but I am becoming more restless and have been looking for direction. Physically my strength is not great and my stamina is less now. So my strength for participation must be from other sources than in past days. I am seeking guidance on that. Three years ago, I received direct word from The Voice – and the time is drawing close. I was told not by strength or power of my own but it would be given by Him. And when I am weak, that is when strength is provided. It is a paradox – when I am weak, then I am strong. ”
“I know there is power in my words, backed by the unseen. I can motivate others to action as well. Yet I must be careful, for I only see darkly, and must have guidance or I can cause harm to others if I move wrongly. I am compelled to speak into situations, for I cannot stand by in the presence of evil or injustice. But often, I do not know exactly what the right is. For sometimes that which looks evil, or good is a misperception on my part. I do not always 'read' people well, which is why I am cautious. It is a hard place to be. This is the reason I have two companions from the unseen realm. For the battle is in the unseen realm for me and they give me guidance or aid if needed.”
“What are you writing on that notepad?” she asked. “I suspect we are not the only ones who come through here. What is your participation is all this? There are others I am assuming.”

Nodding in agreement, "Yes, there are troubling times ahead and I fear that there may be a war of untold proportions as well." Noting a few things down on his notepad, he looked to her as she spoke to him, "Hyper Induction is a rare, powerful and dangerous gift. Warden's will be after someone like you if they find out. But it's my job to make sure they do not."
Ripping the page from the notepad, he folded it neatly and handed it to her. "This is the contact information of a friends who will keep you on the DL."
He stood and walked to the tent, and returned with a couple of bed rolls. Rolling them out. They were made of some type of mesh or webbing, but were as fluffy as any pillow.
"I am just a refugee from a war that happened about 10 years ago. I once fought with the Wardens. I used my abilities to help guide the Wardens into combat from a distance, but after everything was said and done, the SEAPA emerged and became the enemy instead of the heroes they should have been. Now I help those who want to stay out of it. I belong to the Resistance known as 'the Irregulars'. Yes others use this place as a sanctuary as we are now doing, and that is why we must go in the morning. It's not just a Resistance Sanctuary, the Wardens come here to rest after entering this realm."
After a few minutes, he layed down on the webbing mesh and folded it over himself like a blanket. "We will need some sleep for the morning run. Flamewaker's Sector is not somewhere we wanna be slow in. Very dangerous place. So get some rest and I will be ready for us to go in the morning."
With that he seemed to hum for about a minute before falling asleep very quickly.

Lin thought – I wish I understood all this but I guess it is another of those learn as you go sometimes called on the job training. She was not sure about his terminology but she would learn and it looked like the learning curve was going to be sharply uphill.
She thought about people she had known in the past. She understood what he said because at times in the past she had people who had fought at her side, but in the end their ways parted. People who start out in the same direction at times wind up taking a different path when they run into problems or disappointments, or betrayals. How easy it is to be led in the wrong direction.
She took the slip of paper but did not really know what to do with it. And she was a little leery about the path ahead he spoke of. But she was tired so she decided to try that sleeping mat. It was comfortable but sleep did not come easily. She felt so tight, wound up and tensed with all that was happening. She began to shift her thinking and ask for directions. She knew she was going to need to depend heavily on this internal guidance. She hears The Voice:
Untangle, unwind. When tangled, coiled up tight like wire You surely hamper the flow of My fire. The solution is stop and uncurl these kinks Before all your hope and faith now sinks. Become soft, flexible, relax to unwind Then the path for you will be easy to find.
Review and take stock of this passing year Then look ahead with nothing to fear. To fret, tighten, entangle and stress Causes more effort and produces less. Come lay yourself out in My warm light Then you will see the path that is bright.
Make yourself available to the radiance of My Truth So I can show the way and give you the proof. My perspective is what you have need To know My plan before you proceed. You’ll make the time back and much more, And once back on target, you will again soar.
Let Me take you up to greater heights, And show you a new way to think and to fight. It is not old thinking or doing that here wins It’s when you on Me each moment depend. Know you are Mine, and all provision is there. You can be sure that I always take care.
Yes, you heard Me, you are surely on course. You will get there and all will be well. It’s ok.
With that she finally drifts off into a restful sleep.

Lin slept soundly for several hours and suddenly woke as she has often done before. She could sense a presence and heard a voice that said, “They are here.” She looked around to see who was speaking. This was a voice she had not heard before. As she quietly surveyed the surrounding area, she saw nothing moving and no place to hide.
She sat up slowly and then cautiously stood. First she wondered if there was a bathroom around. The tea produced a call from nature that needed to be responded to. Maybe she had imagined the voice, but she still sensed a presence that made her uneasy. She began to move slowly around the area, looking to see if she could spot any place to relieve herself, or see anything that might have spoken. As she moved a bit away from Derrick she spoke softly, “Who is speaking, and who is here?”
The voice spoke again, “Those who are not your friends.” She looked in the direction of the sound. It was coming from the dome. All she could see were the Wurms gathered together. She noticed close by was a plant. She responded, “Are you my friend?” The response was, “Yes.” But she still could not determine if it was the Wurms or the plant that spoke. Inside she sensed this was a friendly voice. “Should I wake my companion?” she asked. Again the response was yes.
She thought, ok – well hope I can find a rest area! And went to wake Derrick. “Derrick,” she said softly, wake up. We have company. Somewhere. And a warning.

Derreck awoke slowly, taking a deep breath, hearing her voice. "Hmmm?", he mumbled as his senses kicked into high gear. "Company?", he looked to her, then around the area. He gazed around for a moment, then closed his eyes to listen to the elements. But something else spoke instead of the usual things that spoke.
He got up slowly and backed into the tent. Shuffling could be heard from within, the sound of metal on metal made 'tink' noises. After a minute or so, he came out wearing a sword in a sheath on his back, and holding two rifles. They looked like small caliber rifles for hunting rabbit or squirrel markings etched into the barrels spoke something much more powerful. The engravings on the guns hummed lightly, and for those who could understand what they were conveying, they meant "sharp", "explosive", and "range" respectively.
He placed one of the rifles next to her and looked down the sights of his rifle to check the accuracy. "Keep this close to your shoulder, it kicks a bit." Satisfied, he began walking forward and let the elements and spirits in this place guide him.
"What you think Lin? What did the elements tell you?", said in a whisper, looking back to her.

Derrick, she said, I awakened with an uneasy feeling, and needing to find a rest area, but I heard a voice - not the usual one I hear. It said, they are here. I looked for who spoke but could not tell. So I asked, who is speaking and who is here. The voice said, those who are not your friends. I looked up and all I could see where the wurms gathered together, and a plant close by but if it was one of them I could not tell who was speaking. I asked if I should wake you and the voice said, yes. So I woke you.
I have been able to receive communication from plants, but never a voice. I have not known about the wurms so I do not know about them. However whoever this is, I can communicate with them, and they with me.
But if it is they who are coming, means more than one. And if they are not friends, I thought this means we need to either leave or get ready for a confrontation. Who do you know that would be coming here - not our friends? Could it be some of the agents? Is there a place to hide or way to leave unseen?

Oh, Lin thought. It has been so many years since I shot a gun of any kind. Not since her husband had died. She had been his companion on hunting trips after he discovered she actually could function in such situations (a male thing that girls did not hunt, she thought laughingly) But he did not know she had grown up in the woods and had hunted with her friends. She was a pretty good shot then.
She remembered the 410 shotgun he bought her AFTER she could outshoot him with birds, and hit a bulls-eye with the sweet 16 she had. That 16 hardly kicked but that 410 was a bummer. She had never used anything larger than a small rifle. And she hated handguns. And certainly had never shot at people! She would not be much help in a gun battle, she thought so maybe it was time to learn to use different ways to deal with battles.
Suddenly she thought of something. She walked over, looked up and spoke softly - please tell me who is speaking? Can we communicate without audible voice? Are you from this place? Or my realm? Can you also communicate with Derrick?
The answer comes into her thoughts. From this realm and yes, if you are with him. He can hear elements you cannot, though so he will have the lead. This is an unfamiliar place to you. You will learn. He will teach you.
As she reflected on the situation – she remembered part of the prophecy: Once you step through, you cannot return To the place of unknowing, the bridge is burned. Now you must trust your unseen guide For only He knows what lies inside.
Didn’t the prophecy say, all things new? There will come one who knows what to do. Put on your helmet, and take up the reins. Much could be lost if territory is not gained.
Prepare to speak with your ruby jaw Things I will show, that will fill you with awe. How you’re seen is not how you yourself see, In the unseen dimension of this reality.
Ahh - she thought – the unseen guide who knows what is inside and the one who will come who knows what to do! So Derrick is that one!
As she looked at Derrick, she wondered what his future would be like. Warrior instincts, yes. His first response was go for the physical weapons. She liked the fact that he looked for guidance beyond himself. She remembered a story from the book of a young warrior who led in battles. Often an older prophet stood on the hills overlooking the battle as the armies clashed. The older prophet over the years trained him in using more than the physical weapons he used on the battlefield. He grew more experienced over the years, and in the end was a renowned leader who killed giants, commanded the elements and won unheard of battles. Whole nations feared for him to come their direction when he entered a territory with his army.

Derreck looked over his shoulder at her, his eyes phasing to an emerald color as his aura shifted to the natural element of Earth. "They could be Elementals on an early patrol, Voidwalkers coming for a rest, Agents coming for us or maybe just someone who is not friend nor foe."
He raised the rifle and closed his eyes, energy tendrils seemed to move outwards from him, slithering out to touch anything in the distance ahead. They seemed to become plants, rocks or other miscellaneous naturally looking things as they moved forward. Each time the tendrils would touch something, they would become that thing and sit next to the object they touched, as though it were camouflaging itself.
After several seconds he lifted the rifle and aimed into the darkness at the end of the dome. "Help me guide my shot.", he spoke in a whisper. He opened his eyes and the world around them began to light up with millions of glowing lifeforms began to amass all around the dome, lighting the darkness and creating a place for no one to hide.
Down at the end of the dome, where the entrance was, a single figure stepped out and into the light carrying a pistol in front of him, clasped in two hands. It was an agent of SEAPA. "Great.", Derreck thought aiming for a crippling shot in the leg rather than a lethal shot to the head.
Looking over his shoulder, he thought about Lin, who seemed a bit uncomfortable with the gun. She seemed to be handling it well, which told him that she was experienced in some way but not good with the thought of injuring another life. He nodded to himself and whispered once more, "Darkness please..."
The room fell dark as the glowing forms dissappated into the outside seas. The dome was totally blacked out now, with sound being the only thing that would tell who from what.
Derreck slid back to Lin, and whispered in her ear, "Stealth is our key here. Looks like two are incoming, if we can lure them in, we can make our way around and out the door, just stay as close as you can to me."
After the words slipped out, he moved to the outside of the domes edge and began making his way around the sides, trying to avoid plants and rocks that would give them away.
A yellow flare lit up the entrance area as the Agent made his way in. Now they had something to help guide their steps, a very small amount of light that gave just enough glow to make traveling through the area easier. As the agent moved further in, he called back to the second agent. Derreck knelt down and watched the second agent walk in and look around. Lifting a rock, he tossed it quickly towards the tent, and waited for their reactions as the rock landed.
As it did, both agents looked up and walked towards it, but the second agent was more wary, staying in place, watching the surrounding sections. "A Tracker. This one is smart and equipped to find people like me.", Derreck whispered to Lin as he got to the ground and crawled through brush and plants slowly towards their exit point.
As he got closer, he could feel the energy from the Tracker getting stronger. He was using his own aura like a radar dish. Any movements into or out of the field of power would be pinged and notice by him. Derreck grabbed another rock and prepared to make a strike against the Tracker. He knew that as long as he was standing at that point, they were escaping.
"Either be ready to run or fight. I can hold them off for a little while. Find the person on that piece of paper I gave you and I'll catch up soon. Just use this to escape. Focus your energy into it once you get to the top of the stairs, it'll take you back to the Cafe.", he whispered as he slid a strange stone to her that looked like a diamond with an odd rune on it. The rune almost spoke to her translating its meaning... "Teleport to Java's Cafe".
He nodded to her "I'll be fine. Just ask Lucy where to find the name on the paper. She'll guide you. I'm sorry but this is something you cannot be involved in until you're sure you want to be."
With that he through a rock at the Tracker, missing by just a few inches. When it landed, the tracker turned his head and Derreck rushed him, tackling him to the ground, rolling and coming up with the rifle pointed at him. The tracker froze with the barrel of the rifle at his forehead, the first agent turned to see the commotion, but stopped once he saw what was unfolding. "Don't move and I'll let you live!", he said starring at the first agent then the Tracker.
He looked in Lin's direction to see what she would do, and began to spin as the Tracker grabbed the barrel of the gun. Derreck moved quick, and spun around, hitting the Tracker with the butt of the rifle before firing a round and piercing the leg of the 1st agent. The tracker landed with a thud and the 1st agent fell screaming in pain as the bullet went clean through his leg and let off a small explosion as the round hit the dome in the distance.
"I have 5 more shots guys and now a serious advantage. Please don't make me kill you..."

Suddenly Lin knew what to do as the abilities of the ruby jaw kicked in. It was a new gift to her and she had not had opportunity to use all it’s potential. She focused her being, opened her mouth to speak, and as she did a highly concentrated beam of light emitted from her mouth.
“Freeze! She commanded the two agents. With that they came to an absolute still, statute like position. She looked at the agent who had been shot, and said, “Be healed.” Then she said, “Forget.”
She looked at Derrick and said, Let’s go now! When they come to, they will not know what to think, since there will be no evidence of this encounter. They will suspect but hesitate to mention it since they have not encountered this or me before.
As she headed toward the stairs, she said to Derrick – I am developing use of new gifts to use in battle, but the prophecy said, I cannot return once I entered this realm. So I am here now – it is not a matter of choice anymore. I am in a totally new environment and I need to learn how to function with my current capabilities. I could use your help – I think you have greater understanding of these gifts than I so please come with me now. The fight will come soon enough – for there is great tribulation coming soon.

Derreck's eyes shut quickly as she stood and screamed. He turned his head away from her and shielded himself from her words. When he looked up, he stared at the two agents, both in some sort of daze as though they had lost their train of thoughts.
"Wow. Useful. That is something we need to work on. The louder your voice, the more potent the effects.", he said analyzing the effects. "Maybe they will call you "Voice" when you meet whatever side you are or not on.", he said with a chuckle. Walking to the tracker, he handed him the gun and he willingly took it as though it were a gift.
"In a normal voice...", he said with a funny look her way, "...tell him he thought that his partner was the person he was after. Tell him he thought he got the drop on me.", he said turning around and walking out into the tunnel for a speedy retreat.
"If you really want to know what to do in combat, then combat is where you need to be. I cannot train you fully, but I can help with the basics, after that, you need to find a Whisper who specializes in Power Words."
Walking down the corridor, he soon got to the entrance and began to make his ascent. He checked the time and smiled thinking they were going to be there early. Really early. Like 4am Earth time early. As he arrived to the top of the entrance. He looked to the sky and saw stars as far as the eyes could see into the empty abyss known as space. Tonight was a good night for traveling. The moon was half but gave enough light to lead the way, and most of the predators would be asleep.
The glow from the moon and stars made the lake dance like fireflies on the horizon, the reflection of the light gathering some of the nocturnal insects of this realm. In various places just above the water, different colors of lightning bugs gathered, doing a dance in perfect rhythm of the lakes gentle motions. Every so often, something would shoot out of the water to catch a bug then disappear into the night waters and the sounds of waves crashing on the shores off in the distance gave off a tranquil feeling, one that could very well make you want to just pull up a chair and enjoy all night.
Derreck helped Lin up the entrance top, and walked to the edge of the oasis like island in the middle of this giant pool of water. He looked back and shrugged, "Welp, I hope you don't mind getting a bit soggy. The only way across is through the water, across the small bridges of coral. Tread carefully, some are slick and we don't want to fall in. Catching a cold here is the last thing we need."
With that, he waved a hand across the ground and two 7 foot walking sticks grew. They twisted in unnatural ways while they were growing from the ground, but were perfectly straight and balanced. "Let's go.", he said leaving one of the walking sticks, and using the other to feel his way across the land bridges just beneath the waters of magical lights.

As Lin finished speaking to the agent, and checking to make sure the leg was healed, she followed Derrick into the tunnel and up the stairs. As she emerged she gasped at the beauty of the night. She had wished that she could see more of this place. It looked intriguing, and seemed so peaceful.
She needed to process what had just happened. She was as surprised by the events and the abilities that seemed to have activated. She thought about where this path into the rabbit hole was taking her, and what she now knew was coming. She seemed to have a different ability to hear than before, and definitely powers that she had not used before. Perhaps what she had been learning was for this purpose, in a different realm. And this was certainly a different one for her.
She said to Derrick! This is gorgeous too bad we do not have time for a tour. You must tell me more about these places you are taking me. We are not going back where we came in it seems if we have to cross the water. Where is this place and are we going back to the café a different way?
She laughed softly as she thought about crossing the water. “Walking on water, heh?” She had dreamed several times that she could walk on top of the water, but never really thought she would see it happen. But if she had to use a walking stick, then there had to be some land somewhere underneath. And she agreed with him, she really did not want to be falling into it! She grabbed the amazing stick and followed Derrick into the lake.

"This place is gorgeous during the winter solstice. The air becomes a bit thick, but the warm humid air creates a strange relaxing effect on the mind and body."
Derreck moved slowly across the top of the waters. He moved the sick side to side and nudged it downwards every few feet, testing depth and width.
"We will not be going to the Cafe. The fact that they tracked us here means they are closing in faster than expected. Normally, I have a few days to get off the grid, but they are getting better at tracking, so we will be heading towards Flamewaker's Sector. Then we can go home."
"I am glad you like Ether-Walking. Sometimes people like us come to the Ether Realms to get away from everything. Once you learn the wildlife, it's like taking a nature walk."
As the edge of land rose slowly from the the distance ahead, Derreck smiled. "Almost there."
After about 50 feet, Derreck and Lin stepped onto solid land, he shook his legs and tried to drain the water from the insides of his boots. "Great exercise, bad water log.", he said with a laugh as long driplets of water feel from the edge of the souls.
The air was a bit more humid and hotter than it was before. The smell in the air was salty and had the scent of sulfur. The sun was changing in hue as well, it was no longer yellow, but now more of an orange and was just coming over the horizon. The sulfurous air seemed to be changing the way the light refracted causing the sky to striped by various colors ranging from a light purple ring around the sun to strips of fushia, pink, light blue, blue and dark blue the closer to the lake it seemed to get.
Derreck stared at it for a moment and looked at his watch, "It's gonna get hot in about 3 Earth hours. We will have to stop somewhere for shelter about 10-ish A.M. It's various dangerous to cross the Vladicar Desert during the day due to exposure. There is a cave we can rest in about half way through but it's gonna be something grueling. I've only made this particular trip once, and I was still in my youth."
Derreck walked slowly forward, collecting various leaves and branches and vines as they passed through small oasis like zones that became less and less frequent as they walked.
The ground became loose and seemed to go from granite to sand in a matter of half a mile. The sands were greenish in color and cactus plants were scattered everywhere, seemingly becoming more and more sparse the further you looked to the horizon, it wouldn't be long before they would be in the middle of something empty and windy.
He stopped in the center of a small oasis and placed the collected items into a pile, then knelt down and focused his energy into the items. They seemed to take a life of their own, standing and intertwined together with the vines, eventually becoming two rather large but light umbrella like things that walked to the tops of the walking sticks and fused together with roots driving into the tops of the sticks.
He inspected the umbrellas and smiled with achievement and pride, "Alright. Looks like we are good to go. Now we need water."
With a few words from his mouth and a cantine he pulled from his waste line, the sound of running water could be heard from within the cantine. An energy whirled around the cantine and water began to rise in the bottom, filling to the brim. He shook it for a moment and took a drink. He tested the water for saltiness and after a few swishes in his mouth, he nodded and pulled a second cantine from his waste line. The strange part of it all was that he was pulling these things from a place that did not seem to be capable of holding what he was grabbing. his belt was standard and had nothing to clip a cantine to.
After repeating the process with the second cantine, he handed it to her and looked to his watch, "We will walk for about 4 hours. I hope your fit for it. If we can't reach the cave by noon, we will be in trouble."
He sat down and rested for a minute, taking a deep breath and letting his body become relaxed as he seemed to become more one with the environment. "Vrisk da ren shi go, mi itsu gee, de.", he whispered lightly, then repeated it over and over for about 3 minutes, he seemed to forget he had company at this moment.

Lin once realized she was again feeling totally out of her element. She had no idea where they were going or why but assumed it was to escape those who had come to where they just were. Derreck certainly was an amazing person, and had talents she had never encountered before. They all seemed to be provision where-ever he went. She had not done the kind of walking he mentioned in a hostile environment but if she was here, it was for a purpose. All she could do was focus her energies and pray they would be enough to get her where they needed to go. She had no choice but to follow his lead at this point. So she took a drink from the canteen he handed her and waited for his next directions. The oasis seemed nice enough so she just looked around while he rested.

A vibration could be felt in his pocket, and Derreck opened his eyes in response. He shifted his weight and pulled his cell phone from his pocket looking at the screen oddly. "Interesting. Guess they managed to get the towers to stick around this time.", showing Lin his cell phone he smiled and spoke with a grin. "Change of plans."
Opening the cell phone he spoke lightly, "Lucy? what's up?" There was a chatter at the other end of the phone and after a few minutes, Derreck hung up the phone and wiped his brow. "that was a close one. If we had to walk that desert, I wouldn't have made it."
With the bottom of his walking stick, he drew an eight-trigram with several symbols and signs around and through the lines. He stepped back and concentrated for a moment, then looked at Lin. "It's been a while since I have done this, hope I got it right."
He stopped to think and looked at Lin's overall demeanor. With everything that had happened, it was amazing she was still sane, most did not take the news of other worldly things to well. "You ready to get back to some place more familiar? I promise, I will tell you and show you everything I can after I talk to Lucy."

Lin watched Derrick and listened as he spoke. A place more familiar? “hum” – she said as she laughed.
“Yes, Derrick, we would have made it. I wasn’t brought here only to perish. If I am here, it is for a purpose. I have been to many strange places over the span of the years, and experienced many strange things beyond my imagination as I am doing now. And when I go, I often do not know why I am where I am, but the One who sends me, always has a purpose for it. Eventually I will serve what that purpose is, and I may be given understanding or maybe not. But that is not my concern.“
She looked around her and took in the surrounding area, as if she were noting each and every part. She began to think about some of the places and things she had been exposed to. Each time there had been a purpose and more often than not it would become apparent why, but not always immediately. At times it had been years before she related to where, why and when. She sighed deeply, as she thought how difficult it was for people to relate to things outside their knowledge or comfort zone, not realizing the deep wells of resources that lie beyond the familiar. Nor how to draw on those unseen, unknown resources. Her only task was to be there and be open to what would be revealed.
She said to Derrick, “You just look at how you used the resources at hand to meet the need of the present. Even as you were able to draw on what you saw, there would also be provision for whatever you face where-ever you are. You just have to allow the awareness to rise within you – draw on the need and the provision will come. You only perceive a very limited amount of what is available. We usually are only a fraction of who we are created to be, and limited by our own perceptions and thinking.”
“Derrick, recently I was given instruction to watch some of what people call scifi. In the series there were many people with different abilities, some used for good, some not used for good. But the purpose of the leader was to see what the gifting was and what could be used or redeemed for good and the possessor allowed to find a place of peace with who they were. Each individual had the ability to choose, and learn more about others as well as themselves, or reject with not so good outcomes.“
“It was interesting as well to see the perspectives given for those who did not really see these individuals who were so different for who they were or what their abilities could add. It was not a comforting assignment, for I am gifted to see and perceive at a deep level. I often did not agree in personal perspective with what I was seeing, but it was a very good assignment. I know in my gut that this was a training and a quickening for me to things I was not aware of. I know also it was a heads up for coming times.’
“I was introduced to much of what I saw as a child in my dreams, and that was a terrifying experience but now is not unfamiliar, therefore not unaccepting that such is real. So I know this here, too, is a continuation of that assignment. Basically, I am here to get something or give something or perhaps both. ”
“So Derrick, how do we get back to “the more familiar? And I will welcome a more complete set of details!” “I hope,” she said under her breath and smiling.

Derreck laughed at her optimism about things. He nodded in agreement and responded with a laugh. "I have no doubt you would have made it and that we would more than likely have found the things we needed to survive the crossing, but I am 150 years old. After all of the wars, wounds and things I have done in my life, I am not at fit as I used to be."
With that said he smiled and stepped into the eight trigrams, fading from sight as the magical aura of the shape overtook his body and seemed to move through him.
Arriving on the other side of the spell field, he looked around at the cafe and notice Lucy sitting behind the bar reading a newspaper.
"Lucy. How's it going? What happened to end the chase?"
She smiled and shrugged, "I don't know but there were a bunch of SEAPA guys here one minute than they got a call on their cell phones and they rushed out, something about a Class X magical field. Whatever that means."
Lucy looked to Lin as she came through the field and appeared at the table where they were before. Derreck looked at his watch and noted the time. "Let's get a set of drinks for Lin and I, I have some things to help her with, knowledge, details and such. Could take a while. Would you mind if we hung out for a little while.
Lucy smiled and began to prepare the drinks, "Of course not. You don't visit enough anyway."

“Well, that was interesting and little unnerving.” Lin said as she appeared.
She said to Lucy, “Before I have any more drinks, nature is demanding that I find a restroom. I am afraid I am still more human that some I see around in this realm? I did not have much time or opportunity to find facilities on that excursion.”
And she looked at Derrick and said, “yes, we definitely need to talk and get me to a place of more understanding of just what He has gotten me into this time! Ba gua, and time space travel – something to do with fung shui? Waaah, bu hoa! Acupuncture, Zhonguo medicine, I know, but this, nope. And I thought I was the elderly person, but I am just a youngster with you! Tell me how you did that!”

Derreck smiled and waved her off to the bathroom with a laugh. "Do what you gotta do. I will be here to answer what I can." He left her and found a table in the corner of the room that faced the large cafe windows, he wanted to see what would be coming their way if anything.
Upon her return, Lucy stopped through and smiled at her as she set her drink and a small platter of vegetable and meat wraps between them.
"Those who are blessed with Warden-ism for lack of a better term, age much slower than those of the Earth Realm. I was conscripted into the Warden some forty years ago. The eldest of us then, was trying to create a truly peaceful harmony between the realm of Earth and Ether but as you can see their plans have come a long way off the path they wanted. I know you have been through one heck of an adventure with me already and I do apologize for involving you in my ordeals but guilty by association happens and I seem to be drawing a lot of attention lately."
Taking a sip of his caffeinated beverage, taking a deep breath afterwards seemingly savoring every bit of the sensations.
"So now that you've seen just the surface of the realms and what people can and may be capable, including yourself, please, ask your questions."
